What Is Whole-Body Vibration (WBV)?
Platform-based vibration training to stimulate neuromuscular activation and circulation.
Platform-based vibration training to stimulate neuromuscular activation and circulation.

Whole-body vibration (WBV) uses a vibrating platform while a person stands or performs supervised movements. Evidence suggests possible improvements in selected strength, balance, or functional outcomes, especially in some older or deconditioned groups, but protocols and results vary. It is an adjunct, not a replacement for progressive aerobic, resistance, balance, and mobility training.
Wear flat, grippy shoes or go socked if advised; avoid thick cushioned soles that dampen stimulus. Remove loose jewelry. Arrive hydrated and with recent food intake to reduce lightheadedness. Inform staff of back pain, hernia, kidney stone history, or recent procedures.
No downtime. Beginners may feel transient foot/leg tingling or mild muscle fatigue. If soreness occurs, it usually resolves within 24–48 hours.
Possible dizziness, headache, tingling, pain, falls, or muscle soreness. Screening is important with pregnancy, recent surgery or fracture, acute thrombosis, unstable cardiovascular disease, severe neuropathy, implanted devices, severe osteoporosis, or balance impairment. Use supervision and manufacturer-appropriate dosing.
