Microneedling uses a powered device with sterile needle cartridges to create controlled skin punctures. FDA-cleared devices have specific indications, treatment areas, depths, and age ranges—commonly selected facial acne scars or wrinkles. Home rollers and cosmetic stamping are not equivalent to a cleared medical device.
Mechanical, not radiofrequency
Standard microneedling creates mechanical injury without delivering RF heat. RF microneedling adds electrical energy below the surface and carries additional burn, nerve, scarring, and fat-loss risks.
Not a universal delivery system
FDA’s device classification does not include transdermal delivery of cosmetics, drugs, or biologics. Applying PRP, exosomes, compounded peptides, or nonvalidated serums through fresh channels changes exposure and requires separate evidence, sterility, and consent.
Skin-tone and infection planning
Settings, inflammation, active acne, herpes history, keloid tendency, pigment history, immune status, and aftercare influence risk. Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation can occur in any skin tone and requires careful technique and sun protection.
