What Are PDO Thread Lifts?
Minimally invasive placement of absorbable barbed sutures to create temporary tissue repositioning. Results and durability vary; dimpling, extrusion, infection, asymmetry, nerve injury, and difficult revision can occur.

PDO thread lifts place absorbable polydioxanone sutures with barbs or cones beneath the skin to create temporary mechanical repositioning. Other thread materials exist. The exact suture, regulatory status, anatomy, insertion plane, anchoring, and technique determine risk and effect.
Not a nonsurgical facelift equivalent
Thread lifts may create modest short-term change in selected mild laxity, but they do not remove excess skin or reproduce surgical lifting. Swelling can exaggerate early results, and published evidence on durability and standardized outcomes is limited.
Authorization must be product-specific
A suture may be cleared for tissue approximation without every marketed facial-lifting claim being specifically authorized. Ask for the manufacturer, product name, material, clearance, intended use, lot, expiration, number of threads, and proposed planes.
Complications and revision
Dimpling, puckering, asymmetry, visible or palpable threads, extrusion, infection, inflammatory reactions, pain, nerve or vessel injury, and hair loss near entry points can occur. Absorbable does not mean easily reversible; removing barbed threads can require a procedure and may not fully restore baseline.
Disclose prior fillers, threads, facial surgery, infection, acne, dental work, scarring tendency, autoimmune disease, anticoagulants, smoking, pregnancy, and goals. Avoid scheduling immediately before important events.
Swelling, bruising, tenderness, tightness, and dimpling can last days to weeks. Follow movement, sleep, oral care, and activity instructions. Report fever, drainage, increasing redness, severe pain, facial weakness, or an exposed thread.

Adults with mild, selected laxity who accept modest temporary results and revision uncertainty. Significant excess skin, poor tissue quality, active infection, unrealistic expectations, or need for a durable lift may favor alternatives.
