Powered needle treatment that delivers radiofrequency energy into or beneath skin. FDA has warned about reported burns, scarring, fat loss, disfigurement, and nerve damage with certain aesthetic uses.

Radiofrequency (RF) microneedling places insulated or noninsulated needle electrodes into skin and delivers electrical energy that heats tissue. Depth, energy, pulse duration, needle type, passes, overlap, contact, and anatomy determine the thermal effect.
FDA safety communication
FDA has reported serious complications with certain aesthetic RF microneedling uses, including burns, scarring, fat loss, disfigurement, nerve damage, and need for surgical or medical repair. A clinic should discuss this warning and identify how its protocol reduces these risks.
Device name is not a dose
Two treatments with the same brand can deliver different injury. Ask for device model, cartridge, needle configuration, depth by area, energy, pulse duration, passes, overlap, and treatment endpoint. Aggressive treatment over thin skin or facial nerves can cause permanent contour change or injury.
Claims and combinations
Evidence supports selected texture, scar, and wrinkle applications, but “skin tightening” is variable and does not equal surgical lifting. Combining RF needling with exosomes, PRP, peptides, or other topicals adds separate delivery and inflammatory risks.
Disclose active skin disease, cold sores, keloids, pigment history, implants or electrical devices, facial filler, anticoagulants, immune suppression, isotretinoin, pregnancy, and recent lasers, peels, or threads.
Redness, swelling, grid marks, tenderness, and crusting can last days. Thermal injury may evolve after the visit. Seek prompt assessment for blistering, severe pain, weakness, expanding discoloration, drainage, or new dents.
Burns, scarring, hyper- or hypopigmentation, infection, prolonged redness, nerve injury, fat loss, contour defects, disfigurement, pain, vessel injury, and need for corrective surgery. Applied products can add allergic, granulomatous, or infection risk.
