Noninvasive energy procedures that heat tissue using radiofrequency or focused ultrasound. They may produce modest tightening in selected patients but can cause burns, nerve injury, pain, or unwanted fat loss.

RF and ultrasound skin-tightening treatments use different forms of energy to heat selected tissue depths. Monopolar, bipolar, or multipolar radiofrequency moves electrical energy through tissue; microfocused ultrasound concentrates acoustic energy at planned depths. They are not interchangeable.
Modest change, not surgical lifting
Selected patients may see gradual, modest improvement over months. These treatments do not remove excess skin, reposition deep facial structures like surgery, or reliably correct major laxity. Early swelling can overstate the result.
Depth and anatomy matter
Device model, transducer or tip, energy, shot placement, cooling, tissue thickness, nerves, bone, fillers, and desired preservation of facial fat all affect safety. Aggressive treatment can cause burns, nerve symptoms, contour loss, or unwanted fat atrophy.
Verify the exact device
Ask for FDA clearance, intended use, model, consumable tip, depth, settings, operator training, and emergency plan. “HIFU,” “RF facial,” or “collagen tightening” is not enough detail.
Disclose pacemakers or implants, facial filler and threads, prior surgery, neuropathy, autoimmune or skin disease, anticoagulants, pregnancy, recent procedures, and any desire to preserve facial fat. Remove metal or products as directed.
Redness, swelling, tenderness, tingling, or temporary numbness can occur. Changes develop gradually. Promptly report blisters, severe or persistent pain, weakness, burns, or new dents and contour loss.
Pain, swelling, burns, blistering, prolonged redness, numbness, nerve injury or weakness, scarring, pigment change, fat loss, contour irregularity, and poor or absent result. Implanted devices may create additional contraindications.

Adults with mild-to-moderate laxity and realistic expectations who want a nonsurgical option. Significant excess skin, thin tissue, implanted electrical devices, active disease, or high concern about fat loss may favor alternatives.
